‘ShipLogic is ideally suited
to a seaport like Den Helder’

The Port of Den Helder has been an enthusiastic user of ShipLogic since early 2023. The ShipLogic Port Management System offers numerous benefits for the handling of maritime shipping, facilitating offshore activities and optimising the port’s own organisation, as explained by three of those directly involved. “We have much better control over the entire port process.

Everything in one single system
Harbourmaster Ary Rijke: “The big advantage of ShipLogic for our customers – the ship agents – is that it offers a direct interface with Portbase, the national Port Community System. They can now submit both ship and Customs notifications through a single system. This saves them a lot of work.

An important advantage of ShipLogic for me and my staff is the graphical insight into our port. The digital map shows us the exact mooring location of each ship. In addition, we always have easy access to all ship-related information such as, for example, the presence of hazardous substances on board.

As the port authority, we now also use ShipLogic to directly submit notifications to the Maritime Single Window and we are easily able to comply with our ISPS obligations.”

Swift implementation
Application manager Simon Slot: “It took us only three months to complete the switch to ShipLogic’s port management system. The implementation went very swiftly. Of course, we also considered other systems prior to switching but ShipLogic proved to be the best option.
The system is ideally suited to a port with public quays such as Den Helder.
Naturally, our port officers needed some time to become familiar with ShipLogic. The graphical layout makes the system quite different to our previous portal – it is highly user friendly and the ShipLogic team continually work on further improvements. What’s more, they are very receptive to customer requirements. It’s a very skilled group of people with whom we can always easily interact.”

Easy invoicing
Team leader financial administration Saskia van Zon: “Via the new system, we wanted to make the invoicing of port dues as easy as possible for all parties involved. We have definitely succeeded in this. Our port officers prepare invoices in ShipLogic. Here in financial administration, we carry out a check. If everything is correct, we approve the invoice, after which it is automatically sent from ShipLogic. Everything is far less laborious compared to our previous system, with significantly fewer steps involved.
The system also generates reports for us every month; about the number of ship visits, for example, down to the berth level.”
