Major maintenance calls for an advanced berth planning system
Starting in December 2025, major maintenance work will take place in the port of Urk. The trench sheets will be reinforced, and the quay will be fitted with new riprap. With this maintenance, the port will be ready for the future. During the maintenance period, the quays will be temporarily unavailable. The municipal harbor masters face the challenge of assigning ships an optimal berth without unnecessary shifting. To ensure that the harbor masters always have insight into the current situation and planning, the municipality started looking for a system for digital port planning.
Eef de Vries, the port operations manager, and several harbor masters visited other ports to learn about their working methods. When they saw ShipLogic for the first time, they knew immediately: this is exactly what Urk needs now. After agreeing on the required modules, the municipality proceeded to take out a subscription.
The training has now been completed, and all harbor masters have been trained in using ShipLogic. They are ready and will confidently tackle the major maintenance and berth planning.
More information about this maintenance can be found on the municipality of Urk’s website.
